HAVING A HEART FOR THOSE OFTEN FORGOTTEN
In the Mid-60's I worked for the Selective Service System as a clerk who completed Induction physical forms. This was downtown Los Angeles at 12th and Maple Sts, in the Bendix Bldg. Prior to employment there, my first job out of high school was with the Dept of Agriculture in a Federal Bldg, at 1031 So. Broadway, Los Angeles, which was also the location for pre-Inductions where the medical physicals were performed. I recall a few instances, when I was in the coffee shop on my break, the medics informed me of male celebrities that were there for physicals that day. The three I recall were Frank Sinatra Jr., Fabian Forte and Troy Donahue, however who recalls them anylonger? No, never had a desire for autographs. This job was my first introduction to the military. It was the time of the Viet Nam war. During his presidency John F. Kennedy had the military develope a specialized elite group of highly trained fighting soldiers--the "Green Beret".
